Fairy Tale Twist

It was July 29, 1981.

I was 5 years old and very interested in being a little princess.

My grandfather got up very early in Dallas, TX and recorded the "Wedding of the Century" - that of Lady Diana Frances Spencer to Charles Phillip Arthur George, Prince of Wales.

From that moment on I became the ultimate fan of hers. So much so that as a young girl, I dreamed of becoming a fashion designer and one day designing for her! I collected books and postcards and magazines about her.

It was an absolute devastation when she was killed in August of 1997. I remember exactly where I was when I got the news. I was at the house we rented in college folding laundry on a Saturday afternoon. I wept as if I had lost a member of my own family. Not that I ever thought I would actually meet her, but this did shatter that dream.

Now years later, by sheer coincidence (or is it), two of my children's names are William and Catherine. And now, Prince William is engaged to marry Kate Middleton, or as she is now to be referred to, Catherine!

It seems as if this fairy tale has come full circle!

I knew you would be excited- and this time you are big enough to set the recorder for the event as you watch it with your Catherine! Bet my dad is watching from heaven.

I can totally relate to this post. I was also infatuated with the wedding of Charles and Di. So much so in fact, we got a puppy soon after the wedding and I named him Charles Phillip Arthur George... nicknamed Charlie.

Your new Mac rules!

Love and pixiedust,

So ironic..I happened upon your blog...I was just in London. I visited Diana's Memorial Fountain & remembered that great wedding. Then the engagement was announced. Everywhere I went I was on the lookout for royal sightings. ;o)
