Feathers from Heaven

In the sixth month, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee. To a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendent of David. The virgin's name was Mary. The angel went to her and said, "Greetings, you are highly favored! The Lord is with you." Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. But the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God. You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end." --Luke 1:26-33

Wednesday was the Advent program at Max's school. His first grade class was performing the Annunciation of Mary and he was the Angel Gabriel.

When he was chosen to be one of the "pivotal" roles of their scene, he told me all about Angel Gabriel. We discussed what he should wear and he said that he had to have "feather" wings. Not fluffy fairy wings, but FEATHER wings! He was very adamant about this, so I went online to order wings, specifically, FEATHER wings, since all the wings we have around the house are fairy wings.

Tuesday before the program arrived and still no feather wings in the mail. This was serious, where was I going to find wings on such short notice, especially when he was so concerned about them being just like he saw in the picture of the angel Gabriel in school!!!! I couldn't let him down. So, I hunted and hunted around town. I went to craft stores and Christian book stores....nothing. Finally, my last thought was a party store right by the school, but I couldn't get there until after dinner due to Will's feeding time.

Alas, the angels looked down upon me and led me there. I found them!!! And he was thrilled. I think he made the most special and authentic Angel Gabriel, if I do say so myself.
On a side note, as I write this post, the doorbell rang. On my doorstep...the costume I ordered. A little late! Oh, well, now we have a possible costume choice for Cate next year at Halloween.

Torri went to a private Lutheran school for 1st grade and did something similar. I loved it; it was the cutest thing ever. Public school just isn't the same that way...

Max made an adorable angel!
