First Turkey

On Thanksgiving this year, we offered to host. As you may remember from this post, Thanksgiving has always been a pretty big deal in my family. We share it with another family and this year marked the 50th anniversary of that first time our families shared Thanksgiving with each other.

It was also my first time to make my own turkey. Luckily, I had my mom hear to coach me along in preparing it just like my Me-Maw did all those years. My brother also came over bright and early to teach Matt how to sew it up as he had learned from my Pa-Paw many years ago. I was making the turkey, stuffing, and our family's traditional pea casserole. Everyone else was bringing the sides and desserts.

The kids even helped prepare and stir some of the food on commercial breaks from the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

That afternoon, we were joined by 27 of our closest friends and family for a blessed gathering! It was so good to catch up with everyone and look back at all those fond memories of Thanksgivings gone by.

We are truly blessed to have such wonderful friends.

It was such a wonderful day Allison & Matt. Your turkey was beautiful and the company was awesome. I have been blessed to be part of these 2 families for 24 years and Thanksgiving is something I always look forward to. Thanks for the special day!

Sounds like it was a wonderful Thanksgiving!

This year was the first year I did the dinner all by myself too. I was so proud of myself. Didn't you feel like such a grown up? How does that happen so quickly???? ;)
