Literacy Thursday - Bear Snores On

One of my new bloggy friends is Jennifer @ If You're Happy and You Know It. She hosts a bloggy carnival on Thursdays called Literacy Thursday. I am a big advocate for reading to children. We have read to Max and Cate since they were in the womb. We have storytime every single night before bed, and both of them look forward to it. They each pick out the 3 books they want to have read to them. I strongly feel that this is how Max has such a strong vocabulary these days and I look forward to seeing each of them learn to read! Even though both of my kids have speech delays (but that is a whole 'nother post), their receptive vocabulary is very strong. You only have to show them a picture a couple of times before they can find it upon command! Anyway, back to the point of this post. My pick for this week is my personal favorite series to read to the kids. Matt and I each have a "special" book that only that parent is allowed to read to the kids. Mine is Bear Snores On and now we have all of the ones that follow. They are great books about friends coming together and helping the one in need. They are told in a fun sing-song fashion which makes it easy and fun to read (at least for me).

Bear Snores On
Written by Karma Wilson and Illustrated by Jane Chapman

Others in the series are: Bear Stays Up (for Christmas), Bear's New Friend, Bear Feels Sick, Bear Feels Scared, Bear Wants More

Reading is good. More people should read and especially read to children or provide books to children who can already read. And the only thing better than reading is writing and writing about oneself or the times one lived in is a good habit to get into. I like your blog and your blog post.

That looks like a cute book--I haven't heard of it before.

What a great idea to recommend kids' books!

Everyday my first grader brings home a book to read from school and last month he brought home that book--it was so cute!

I love that you have special books that only one parent can read. Great idea! And Jayce is a big fan of the Bear snores on series too.

We also love the Mo Willems books about the pigeon. Very fun reads. You might want to check them out if you haven't already.

I love reading, as do the wee ones. We haven't discovered this series yet, but I may have to try to steer them in this direction the next time we head to the library.

And speech delays? We've so been there. With both wee ones, for totally unrelated reasons ironically. I know how frustrating it can be, but ... good luck. And I hope that your EI can help you out. If you ever want an ear from a mom who's been there, I'm open. I know how hard it can be to find people who get it.

And thank you so much for coming to visit my blog on my SITS day. Today has been so much fun and so lovely to see the response and fun comments. I really appreciate it. I hope you enjoyed my blog and come back to visit soon!

Great post and really nice blog! We read to our children every day as well. They bring their books whenever the spirit moves them and now our 4 year old reads to us! He has is favorite stories memorized but it's amazing how they start to pick out words and slowly develop their reading skills.

I have never heard of this book...but I will check it out.

Thank you for sharing.
