Literacy Thursday - Ben Hurry

Ben Hurry
by Doug Peterson
VeggieTown Values Series

With the exception of "The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything", Max is not a huge fan of VeggieTales videos, but he really likes the books. Not sure what turns him off about the videos, but that is neither here nor there. Moving on to the book recommendation. This book has a great message about learning patience! It is set in ancient Roman times, thus getting the name, Ben Hurry! This is a virtue that we are constantly working on with Max and Cate. My husband has admitted himself that he is not the most patient man in the world...no arguments, there! Anyway, if this is something that you have trouble expressing to your children, this might be the book for them. It is a relatively short story and it is found in paperbook, so very inexpensive. We found ours at a Christian bookstore, but I have seen them on Amazon or Barnes and Noble websites. There are also others in the series such as "West Slide Story", "Cool Hand Cuke," and "Field of Beans"! Because of the reference to movies that adults would know, I find them very entertaining to read to them!

Now this is a great idea for a weekly post. I am always on the lookout for a good read for my kids. Thank you for this review. Definitely something that I am going to be adding to my next Amazon order.

It's funny how some kids will really love a certain thing but other kids can't stand it:) Mine weren't interested in Veggie Tales in the very least either!

I am somewhat pleased to say I have never seen Veggie Tales.

Cavett likes Veggie Tales, but would rather watch something else. But we are now in the phase of teaching Kendrick about patience. We'll try this one with him. It sounds funny with the adult humor added in.

Have you tried the old school "Have Patience" song from either Bullfrogs and Butterflies or the Music Machine? I can't remember which it is from but our guys love singing that one while they wait.

I didn't know Veggie Tales had books. I will have to look into them!
