Ok, so this has become my newest battleground with Max...the BATH!
Is it to much to ask of a 4 1/2 year old to wash himself or at least be willing to bathe?
Yes, he's a boy and yes, he's only a kid, but by the way he acts each and every bath, you would think we are torturing the poor child, which results in us (hubby and me) raising our voices, which then turns into more than it needs to be...I mean, it is just a BATH!!!!
We have tried playing for 5 minutes before the washing begins, so he gets his fun time in. We have tried bubble baths and told him to cover himself in bubbles, thinking that even if he doesn't get any real "washing" done, at least the bubbles are somewhat like soap...but I am at my wit's end!
I know I am not the only parent out there dealing with this, but in the moment, in a bathroom that echoes the squeals and screams of impatience (from both of us), it sure feels like it.
Is there a truce on the horizon for these daily "battles at sea"?
Do any of you have any suggestions to making our bathtimes more productive without taking away the childlike fun out of it. Any would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe some coloured bath soap? I can't recall the name of the stuff, but it comes in various colours and kids love the stuff. It can be a tad messy, but again, it's soap, so at least he'd be getting clean.
I guess there's always the carrot and the stick approach as well. If he gets bathtime over with, with as little fuss as possible; perhaps an extra story before bed? Or another song? Something like that.
My almost 3 year old has thankfully calmed down when it comes to bath time and now loves her bubble time.

We had the same issue with Sam for a while. Our solution - crayon soap. He loves drawing, and loves it even more when daddy draws Thomas trains on the tub wall. He can pick which train dad draws after as long as he's a good boy while getting washed. And now that we've stressed how important it is to keep clean, he even loves wiping it all off at the end of tubby time. Hallelujah!
Johnsons makes this soap called Super Sudzer. Basically it's bar soap inside a soft loofah like cover so that it doesn't slip out of their hands. Maybe he'll feel more like a big kid using bar soap? We also have used color tabs that turn the water colors. Another idea are those washcloths that look like puppets or gloves?
